The final trailer has arrived for the upcoming Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and it looks EPIC.

If you haven’t watched the original Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal you TOTALLY should, because it is amazing. Some may say it looks dated, but Henson was able to achieve with the use of puppetry during the early 80s what some CGI heavy films of today could only dream of.

That’s why it’s nice to see in the final trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance that the masterful use of puppetry is still alive and well.

For those tired of reboots and remakes, fear not! Age of Resistance is actually a prequel. The synopsis for the series is as follows:

Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects.

The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

Our favorite villains, The Skeksis, are at it again (or in this case for the first time since this is before the events of the first movie) as there is a battle for the future of Thra.

There’s a lot of characters in this installment, but don’t worry about it being too crowded to focus on them all. Age of Resistance is a series that will have 10 episodes at one hour each to explore all the inner and outer workings of this fantasy land.

The series has a star studded cast that includes Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman), Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Cloverfield Paradox), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones).
